Free advertising means that you can find places to advertise on the internet and it doesn't actually cost you anything. This might seem a great bargain at first, but you do need to be a little bit careful, because "free" might have some strings attached e.g. someone might require that you provide them with a valid email account, where they will probably send you offers in the future. However this problem can be overcome simply by signing up for a new email account at Yahoo.com or other FREE services, and you need only login to this email once every few months to delete everything!

Free Advertising: Does It Work?

The first most obvious question is do the advertising that is FREE work? Well the answer on the internet is some does most doesn't! You simply have to check out how your advertising is performing. The same is true of course for paid advertising. You could pay alot of money on some pay per click provider and not sell a single item!

So the first step is to be set up with the tools that will enable you to be successful. In brief this means you need some reliable hosting, a tracker service of some kind, and probably an autoresponder service, so that you can keep in contact with people who want to know more information

What Kinds Of FREE Advertising Are Recommended?

The types of FREE advertising I would recommend are text ads of some kind. There is alot of evidence that text ads perform better than any other form of advertising. This is of course why the pay per click companies exist. There are a number of services where you can place some code on your website which displays other peoples ads, and earns you credits for your ads on other sites at the same time. There are also systems which place text ads right in the top of your browser like a toolbar. You can earn credits automatically as you surf, and use these for displays of your own adverts

Free Advertising Through Article Marketing

One of the best ways to get FREE advertising all the time, is by writing interesting content that people can read. Afterall you are readint his arn't you! The basic idea is that instead of trying to sell something, you simply write interested articles, and then post them wherever you can, but especially on blogs and the articles directory sites

Free Advertising: Using An Email List

One of the most effective ways of advertising on the internet is to develop your own email list of people interested in your product or service. One of the most effective ways to do this is to simply add a special piece of code on your website called < FORM>. What this does is that it places a signup box where people must enter their name/email to claim say a FREE eBook or FREE ecourse etc. They are then harmlessly added into your autoresponder email series, which they can unsubsribe from at any time. This is not SPAM but provided it is done correctly, is within the CanSpam Act

Info Marketing

Using this system you set up a series of email messages to be sent to people in a particular order and or set times e.g. after 5 days, after 10 days etc

As with articles and blog posts you are not looking to sell someone anything. So you are not sending them message after message with some "pitch" to buy this or that. Instead you send them information about what ever the product you want them to buy is about. So say I want to sell hosting, I send my subscribers a message about the advantages of paid hosting as compared to free hosting. At the end of the message I say - if you want to know more please click here. The "click here" link goes to your affiliate link. But notice I havent tried to make a "pitch" at them. This kind of approach works and is called info marketing, because you are not trying to be a salesperson, but providing helpful information

One of the most important aspects of promotion with your website or blog is marketing and advertising. This is because there are now literally millions of websites and web addresses out there on the world wide web. There is reckoned to be around 6 million active sites, with a further 30 million which are either pending deletion or "parked", which means in reality that they are doing very little. The search engines generally delist sites which have no meaningful content, such as the pending sites, so that means there are 6 million sites that are potential competitors with your website. Each of these sites may have lots of actualy webpages, with some having hundreds if not thousands of individual webpages. so this all adds up to a huge number of actualy webpages, that have to indexed and ranked by the search engines

Getting Your Website Listed In The Search Engines

The search engines tend to give greater priority to more established sites. So websites that are new may find themselves ranked lower, until there is a fair passage of time. More established websites, that have been around for several years, will find it easier to get better rankings with the search engines

The bottom line is that if you just leave your website, even if you have lots of good quality original content, then you will probably struggle to get your site noticed by any of the millions of people searching for information online. Certainly content is the key to being successful. Especially if you are constantly adding new content, which is geared to the keywords and keyword phrases that people are seacrhing against when they are online

Concentrate On The Best Marketing And Advertisaing Services Only

Marketing and Advertising online are very important. However there are many "sharks" out there, that promise good advertising for your website, but in fact the advertising is very poor indeed. A good example of poor advertising is the myriad of so called "traffic exchanges", which claim to provide good quality traffic for your website. In reality they are "hit monsters", which means they will provide you with thousands and thousands of "hits", usually with a very short page view, e.g. 10 seconds, but no one is actually looking at the pages. So its a kind of alexa hit booster: loads and loads of hits, but all totally pointless. Most of these kind of advertising programs - and Im afraid there are lots of them out there - are a totally dishonest attempt at providing good quality traffic to your site. It is best therefore to stay clear of such programs unless you are sure the traffic is actually genuine, with a page view of at least 30 seconds, otherwise all you are doing is wasting valuable bandwidth on "phantom hits"

The Best Marketing And Advertising

The best way to advertise your website is through using the pay per click advertising systems. Google Adwords program probably gives the best results. However there are a number of other providers, some are quite a bit cheaper than Google Adwords, but from my own experience they not as effective. It does take quite a bit of time to learn how to use Pay Per Click advertising effectively. It all boils down to the formatting of your ad, and the keywords that you wish to target with your advert. You will need to be patient until you find the right kind of set up for your campaign. However when you "get it right" it really is a no brainer - you can simply set it and forget it, and just pick all the sales and extra traffic you are getting

Other Marketing And Advertising Methods

There are a few other marketing and advertising methods to consider. I would suggest you get into the habit of posting articles on the article directories, and where appropriate, submitting press releases. This can be a bit of a time consuming process, and is also a bit tedious, but once you have a good number of articles out there, and lots of other sites are publishing your material, all with a link back to your site, you traffic can start to take on a life of its own. You have to be patient to simply wait for things to happen, especially if you havent got a huge budget to go on

Direct Email Marketing By Running Your Own Newsletter

One other method of marketing and advertising for your site is to maintin a newsletter. People can signup when they visit your site, and you can then send them email promotions automatically over anything upto a year or more. People unsubscribe as they wish, and you can never be accused of SPAM since your subscribers have asked to receive your information. The best way to run this kind of newsletter system is to provie people with interesting articles and "tit bits", and have some minor advertising for your products in the emails. So you concentrate on the information part of the emails, but also include a link back to your site, and better still to an actual product sales page. This can be a very effective way to actually get extra traffic to your website - and of course its all completely free. The only problem is that it does take a bit of time to sit down and say write 52 messages, and upload them to your autoresponder program. However once its all done, you can just sit back and reap the rewards on auto pilot

An advertising agency is a specialized advertising service which will take care of your advertising campaigns for you. Typically an advertising agency is staffed by a range of professional indiiduals experienced in the advertising world. This will include:

Contacts to ensure your press releases and other free publicity gets to the rights people i.e. friendly newspapers looking for appropriate stories

Publicity stunts, sponsorship deals, events, trade fairs etc where you can get either free advertising or very lost cost and high visibility campaigns

Graphic designers, to produce promotional material

Bulk advertising rates to save you time and money on chosen advertising vehicles

Advertising advice for you particular product and/or niche

Media professionals to plan and produce your television and/or radio commercial

Free give away department to help you produce free giveaways e.g. pens, ballons, stckers

Advertising agencies can be very expensive, however they are generally very good at what they do. Being specialists within the advertising inducstry, and staffed by a set of different people, each of whom is an expert in their field, ensures your advertising campaign really works the way you want it to

Frequently large advertising budgets are handled by and advertising agency e.g. poloitical parties always use advertising agencies to get their message across - as do large companies. This doesnt mean a small business can't succeed without using the services of such a specialist firm, but these people generally really know what they are doing

Pay Per Click Advertising or PPC, is where short text ads are placed either on Search Engines, as sponsored results, when people do searches against a keyword or keyword phrase, or on partner websites where the information on the webpage matches a particular topic

Payment By Results

The idea behind Pay Per Click (PPC) is that advertisers pay only for results in the form of clicks on the ads. This means you can have your text advert displayed many thousands of times, but you only pay when someone clicks on your advert. There have been many sites on the internet that have offered advertising, but without any guarantee of the number of actual clicks an ad would receive i.e. static ads. However Pay Per Click Advertising allows an advertiser to know for absolute certain that the ads are being clicked, and with a bit of added code into their webpages, it is also quite easy to calculate when those "clicks" convert into customers and sales

Placing Your Cost Per Click - Or "Bids"

The actual amount you will pay for each click on your text ad will depend on how much you have bid as your maximum bid. You will actually pay anything up to your maximum bid. The system works like a normal auction i.e. the higher the maximium bid, the higher the position your ad will appear in the list of ads for that particular keyword or keyword phrase. Advertisers who have bid the highest maximum bid will end up paying the most for each click. So you need to be very careful when setting up your bids, otherwise you will end up with a big bill from the Pay Per Click provider, without necessarily generating any sales

Conversion V Maximum Cost Per Click

In simple terms you conversion rate i.e. the number of clicks you need for each sale - this will not change depending where your ad appears in the list of ads. In other words irrespective of how much you pay for each click on your ads, you conversion rate will remain broadly the same. However the higher your bid, and the higher your ad appears in the list of ads, the more clicks you will receive. So its all a calculation of your conversion rate to a sale of your product versus the maximum bid it pays to accept. If you get this calculation wrong then you will end up losing money

Setting Up A Pay Per Click Campaign

It might sound very easy that all you need to do is set up your ad and sit back and wait for the clicks and the sales - however nothing in life is ever that easy!

You have to be very skilled as to how you set up your campaign. This means picking the right keyword or keyword phrases and setting your bids at the right level so that you end up with enough sales to pay for the advertisement

Having said that Pay Per Click is a very effective way of generating sales and getting extra targeted visitors - so long as you really do target your clicks to individual products and individual landing pages. For example if you had 100 products on your website, all with an individual sales page, then you should target your clicks for each individual page in turn. This should give you the very best results over the longer term

There are various ways to advertise on the internet. However its always important before getting started to bear in mind that most advertising is relatively ineffective. you will come across lots of advertising services, which claim to be very good, but all you end up doing unless you are very careful, is spending alot of money but not actually getting any significant results

Lets start From The Beginning

Because most people have tried all sorts of ways to advertise and actually achieved anything from them, there is a tendency for everyone to get in on the "advertising" industry. This means there are thousands and thousands of website offering advertising services - simply because they hyave found that they can make money money from advertising, than from actually selling a product!

So do treat all advertising services with a great deal of suspicion. Its just too easy for websites to put up "buy now" buttons for advertising, even though they know perfectly well that the advertising will probably not work. They dont particularly care who the next person will be that falls for their cleverly worded trick

The answer to this problem is to look at all advertising as ineffective unless you have clear eveidence to prove that it really works. To do this is very simple - check on what the results from the advertising are. you can use tracking links instead of your usual link, and this will tell you how many people really clicked your links, and from where. You can also adjust the links you use so that you can see how your advertising is performing in terms of sales. You could even set up separate pages for each advertising vehicle you use. But above all else you must check and monitor how your advertising is performing

The Most Effective Ways To Advertise Online

Another way to measure the effectiveness of your advertising, is to compare the amount that you have to pay with the results you obtain. What I am thinking of here is that some Ezines will send your solo ad out to their entiure membership database which might be over 100,000 people. If these people are all targeted to a specific theme, that your product also fits into, then you might get far nmore sales from a single solo ad, than many 10's of dollars spent on Pay Per Click advertising. some Ezine advertising can be quite expensive at say somewhere between $170 and $350 depending on the membership size of the Ezine concerned. However many people find there is no better way for them to advertise than by using Ezines

Another way round the Ezine system is to start your own Ezine or develop your own email list. The trick is simply to write a small amount of content, and then have a couple of sponsored ads, within the text. People may well click on these links and the result could be extra sales. There are people who just use this method of advertising i.e. they just build their own email list/ezine and put different links to affiliate products or their own products as the main sponsored ads. This is certainly a trick not to miss. It is using the idea of "reverse marketing" which is one of the most effective systems you can try. Instead of joining an Ezine or advertising on an Ezine run your own. However it will take a long time to build the ezine up to a big enough size to be effective - you really need at least 20,000 members. Then of course you could sell advertising space from as much as $100 a time. This could turn out to be a good earner for you

I have also had a great deal of success with Pay Per Click, however you do need to be very careful when chossing your keywords and setting your bids. Its always best to keep your bids as low as possible, and never use the broad match for your keywords. always think up as many different keyword phrases as you can, and then use either the exact match, or the phrase match for your keywords. This will mean that the people that do click your ad will be searching for some phrase that matches exactly the product you are trying to sell. However the one problem with Pay Per click is that you will often have a very small profit margin i.e. you might sell a product from $29.99 but you might spend $25 in Pay Per Click advertising - so is it really worth it?

One of the first lessons you have to learn when you are starting a business on the internet is that advertising online is generally ineffective. On the other hand if you dont advertise at all then you business will go nowhere because no-one will ever find your site

The answer to this problem is to use as many of the free advertising services you can find that really work. Now sure that is easier said than done, but reading this little article will point you in the right direction

My Experiences Of Advertising Online

I have had my own website on the internet for over 2 years, and over that time I have learn what works and what doesnt work. Now you will hear lots of "guru's" tell you should do this or that - however in the main they are all wrong. YES they might have found some amazing strategy some time ago - some technical way of tricking the search engines or some special way of getting traffic to their site - but if it was that good why are they telling everyone about it? The reality is that they know themselves they days when it would work are long since gone - so they might as well make a few bucks selling some ebook with all the out of date info for everyone else!

If you like one of the main lessons I learned is never ever listen to someone who comes along promising that they are the "expert" and they "have all the answers" - the only certain thing about people who "say" they know it all is that they know close to nothing!!

Test, Test And Test Again

The one thing that works better than everything else is simply to try an idea out for yourself and see how much traffic and sales resulted from it. The best ideas are always to try something different to what everyone else is doing. So watch which way all the sheep are going - and then you go another way! Most people are failing online - so there is no point in just doing what everyone else is doing

The secret is test out what you are doing and see if it works or not - the things that work are worth repeating, and those that dont seem to provide you with anything, then maybe think of a different way of using them

Here's a simple example - safelists. These are simply just email sending programs where you join for free and send out your ad to everyone else in the list once a week. Sounds simple enough, however most of the people simply delete all the messages, so no-one will ever see your ad. So my method is - dont send any ads! - just take over a few safelists yourself, and then puts lots of banners and text ads etc on the safelist, so that when people come to post their ad they might see one of my banners or text ads, click the ad and join the program. This is far more effective than sending them an email ad all about the program

What Has Worked For Me

The most effective tghings that have worked for me are:

Posting to Forums
Simply go to as many forums as you can find and post an answer to someones question, leaving a link to your site in the signature file

Writing articles to the various article directory sites - again with a resource box leaving a live link to your website address. Most people cant write good articles so they will take your article, put it on their site or ezine and keep the link to your site in tact

Posting to blogs - the more blogs the better, keeping your different posts on a different page, and then linking to them from your site - often called backlinks

An Email List
Invite people who do visit your site to join your ezine or your email list. Offer them a free ebook or similar incentive to signup. Then send them a series of emails - say one a week for 52 weeks, and place a link to your site right at the top of the email. Some of them will click the link and provide you with more visitors/sales

Advertising is simply the process of getting your message across to other people. In any business it is important that as many people as possible know about your product or services. If no-one knows what you have to offer then you might as well not actually be in business at all. If course its very important to have a great product or service before you begin. This means you have to put quite a bit of work into your research and development efforts, including product development and testing, as well as questionnaires etc to find out what exectly people want - and just as important whether there is a market for your intended product or service

How To Advertise: Ad Copy

One of the most important requirements of any good advertising is that you think carefully about how to put your ad copy together. This simply means how you word your adverts. There is a huge difference in response rate between adverts that are drafted according to long standing advertising copy principles and those that are just thrown together in time for the newspaper deadline

The most important thing to understand is that people have many thousands of ads that cut across their daily grind. So consider how are they going to see your suggestions? What you need is an advert that really pulls people in and gets them to take action

Advertising With The Negative Strategy

There are various ways to do this. One of my favourite ways is to concentrate on the "negative strategy". No one like to think that what they are doing is completely wrong - people will always take notice if you try and grab their attention. You can do this in various ways depending on the vehicle you are using for your advertising. for example - "Sick Of Pathetic Results From Your Safelist Advertising" - "The Five Biggest Mistakes Of Marketing With Blogs" - all these examples use the idea that people are failing with the advertising they are doing at present. Its one of the most powerful advertising copy ideas to use, especially, as with the second example, its geared explicity to a particular niche audience

Trigger Words

Always remember there are certain trigger words which will get people to stop and take notice - e.g. ZERO - "ZERO To 7,500 visitors A Day" or Give - "I Am Giving Away Free Websites That Make Money" or Cash "The Easiest Way To Rob The Rich And Put Cash In Your Pocket NOW"

Using Psychology In Your Ad

When you are putting your ad together you should also think about psychology in your ad - i.e. how can you get people to feel they MUST take action on your advert even if they dont really want to. This is mainly achieved in the implication of the advert. Always think about a hidden meaning or implied meaning that your ad is giving e.g. "Once I Was Like You - Stuck In The Daily Grind" - can you see that this headline is loaded with implications?

Testing Your Ad

You should always put something in your ad to try and test how effective a particular ad is. This is much easier online than it ever was offline. You can simply add a different link in your ad and then measure how many time that particular unique link was clicked. There is also tracking software that can be installed on your domain that will check where the person viewing your page was referred from. The advantage of this method is that you can still use your main webpage URL in your ad, so that the search engines for example will recognize the link and give you extra credit in your "page rank"
